33rd (Lancashire and Cheshire) Signal Regiment (Volunteers)
On 1st April 1967, re-named 42nd Signal Squadron
(Volunteers), the unit became part of the newly formed 33rd (Lancashire
and Cheshire) Signal Regiment (Volunteers) with Regimental Headquarters and
Headquarters Squadron at Huyton, Liverpool, with Sabre Squadrons as follows:
42nd Signal Squadron (Volunteers) based at Manchester
59th Signal Squadron (Volunteers) based at Deysbrook Barracks,
Liverpool
80th Signal Squadron (Volunteers) initially based Chester,
changing its title to 80th (Cheshire Yeomanry) Signal Squadron
(Volunteers) in 1973, and moving to Runcorn, Cheshire in 199__.
33rd (Lancashire and
Cheshire) Signal Regiment (Volunteers) formed part of the new 11 Signal
Group (Volunteers) which had its Headquarters at Crawford House, Upper Warwick
Street, Liverpool (later moving to Deysbrook Barracks, Liverpool). The first
Deputy Commander of 11 Signal Group was Lieutenant Colonel PD Weymont TD who had
recently relinquished command of 42nd Signal Regiment. On 1st
January 1982, 11 Signal Group (Volunteers) was re-titled 11 Signal
Brigade (Volunteers). In July 1992 it became 11 (ARRC) Signal Brigade. On
12th April 1996 the Brigade Headquarters moved from Liverpool to
Donnington in Shropshire. In April 1997 it dropped ‘(ARRC)’ from its title,
becoming 11 Signal Brigade.
