Uniform - 1930

The following scale of clothing was issued to members of 42nd (East Lancashire) Divisional Signals (TA) in 1930:

2 Service Dress Caps (1 Stiff, 1 Soft) 1 Cap Badge
1 Set of Collar Badges 2 Sets of Shoulder Titles (with ‘T’ for Territorial)
2 Blue and White Armbands 1 Coat Warm MS
2 Service Dress Jackets (1 for best, 1 for work) 1 Pair of Service Dress Trousers
1 Pair of Pantaloons 1 Pair of Spurs
2 Pairs of Puttees

Regulation Boots were required for Annual Camp. These were supplied as personal property at 15 shillings per pair from the Quartermaster’s Stores. An allowance for boots purchased from the Quartermaster’s Stores of 4 shillings was paid to men attending Camp for 15 days and 2 shillings and Sixpence for those attending camp for 8 days. If it was not desired to purchase the boots, they had to be returned immediately after return from Camp. All boots not returned within 14 days were considered as sold and the value deducted from Bounties. Men who have purchased boots would continue to receive boot allowance for subsequent camps provided the boots were produced in serviceable condition.

In addition to the above scale of clothing, each man had to take the following to Annual Camp:

Blacking and Brushes Cleaning Kit
Dubbin Hairbrush and Comb
Knife, Fork and Spoon Lanyard
Shaving Kit Soap
Spare Bootlaces Toothbrush and Paste
Towels Whip

Pickering Green Blanco was to be used for Web Equipment and Pantaloon Grips.

Orders of Dress - 1930

Clean Fatigues - Uniform Jacket, Riding Breeches and Puttees.

Drill order - Uniform Jacket, Riding Breeches, Puttees and Spurs. Bandolier, Rifle and Sling.

Marching Order - Uniform Jacket, Riding Breeches, Puttees, Spurs and full equipment with armbands.

Ceremonial Order - As for Drill Order, with medals, (Best Service Dress) and Lanyard.

Church Order - As for Ceremonial, less Rifle and Sling.

Walking Out - Best Service Dress, Breeches, Puttees, Spurs and Lanyard. Belts to be worn if issued, otherwise Bandoliers. Whip must be carried.

When in Marching Order, the following items were to be carried in the haversack:

Holdall (containing laces, toothbrush, razor, shaving brush, comb, knife, fork and spoon), hairbrush, towel, soap, one pair of socks. Water Bottle must be filled with fresh water.

 

Still Recruiting...

42 Signal Squadron is still recruiting spare-time soldiers to train on Tuesday evenings,  weekends, plus a 2-week exercise each year, often abroad. 
Applicants should be medically and physically fit, and aged 17 - 32 (can be older with previous military experience).
